Preparation
GENERAL
Examine all surfaces that are to receive Protect-a-wall. They must be clean, smooth and free of any loose paint or oils before applying water based mastic primer.
SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
New Drywall or Plasterboard – New drywall should be taped and sanded smooth. All surfaces should then be wiped clean removing any dust. Walls should then be primed with a water based primer.
Concrete Walls – Walls should be filled and made smooth with a suitable filler. Walls should then be primed with a water based primer.
Painted Surfaces – Test painted surfaces for adhesion. If the paint has softened where tested the paint must be removed or sealed with a water based mastic primer.
Existing Wall Coverings – Ensure all existing materials ie. Wallpaper and wall vinyl is securely fixed to the wall. Any loose areas must be removed and repaired as required. The existing wall covering should then be cleaned with a mild detergent and wiped dry.
Sheet Preparation
◦ Establish a level line at the specified height for the entire length of the run. Remember to allow a minimum 2mm gap around window frames, ceilings, baseboards and adjoining sheets to allow for expansion. Use a Stanley knife and straight edge for any necessary cutouts.
◦ File or router the top edge of the sheet to ensure there is no sharp edge protruding
◦ Place the sheet with the smooth side up and wipe the sheet clean with a damp cloth to remove any dirt marks.
Cutting Protect-a-Wall
The panel may be scribed and snapped with a Stanley knife and straight edge. Alternatively for larger jobs a Circular saw may be used. An aluminum blade or those used for cutting Laminates is suitable
Adhesive Application
◦ XT2000 water based adhesive or equivalent is recommended.
◦ Install strictly to the manufacturers instructions.
◦ A brush able Contact adhesive may also be used as per the manufactures recommendations.
◦ Always use a roller to ensure maximum contact with the adhesive and to remove any bubbles.
◦ Double sided tape for door panels - Industrial strength double sided tape may be used. 3M 12mm 4032 or equivalent is recommended.
◦ Once the Door panel has been cut to size and cleaned the tape should be applied around the outer edge of the panel. A further strip should be applied diagonally from one corner to the other.
◦ Note: Ensure a level line is established and that a sufficient gap is left either side of the panel for the door jams.
Finishing Trims and Sealants
◦ Various trims are available to purchase with Protect-a-Wall including Corner guards, Internal corner mould, Finishing trim, and vertical joiner etc. They should be slid on the sheet before applying adhesive.
